Barbara becomes bored with her life as the wife of a rich lord. She seeks excitement by sneaking out of their country mansion at night and becoming a highway robber. A chance meeting with a fellow highwayman leads to a passionate affair. As time goes on, her behaviour gradually becomes more extreme and her nocturnal activities are in danger of being discovered.
